Postpartum anxiety and related distress is increasingly being recognized as a serious problem with negative health consequences for the mom and infant. Emerging research has revealed specific factors that may place certain individuals at risk for experiencing distress following the birth of their baby. Researchers at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, and Florida State University are developing and investigating exciting new ways of preventing anxiety and distress during the postpartum period.
The goal of Baby PREP is to provide the mom-to-be with important tools for dealing with anxiety symptoms. If you participate in Baby PREP, you will be randomly assigned into either a state-of-the-art traditional prenatal education program, or a traditional program with an extra training component. Our hope is to increase postpartum health, which has important implications for the entire family, including the new addition!
